Billy Weathers was born on January 6th 1933 in Woodruff SC. He joined the Navy in 1952 at the age of 19 and spent Boot Camp in San Diego. Out of his 22 years of service 18 were at sea. Billy served our country during the Korean War, Cuban Missile Crisis and Vietnam. He was stationed all over the country including San Diego, Virginia, Charleston, Key West and Jacksonville. He entered as enlisted and worked his way up to Chief Warrant Officer 3 earning several medals along the way.
Billy married Dorothy Gibson in 1963 and together they raised a blended family of six children. Three of his children live in Fountain Inn. He also has a granddaughter and two great grandchildren residing in Fountain Inn.
After retiring from the Navy in 1974 Billy and Dorothy purchased an auction house store in Jacksonville Florida. Together they operated the business till 1979. That’s the year they decided to pick up and move to Fountain Inn to be near Billy’s parents, Marvin and Christine Weathers. Land was bought then came the cows, some chickens, ducks, a few goats and a garden. They made Fountain Inn their home.
At the age of 89 Billy still likes to stay busy. You’ll often find him working on a range of projects with his youngest son. You may also find him out in the field on his tractor or operating the loader. He enjoys spending time with his family. Family gatherings around the table are one of his favorites. Billy loves a good meal. A simple dinner at home with family and a trip to his favorite Waffle House or local seafood restaurant are always on his to-do list. He’s happily passed this attribute down to his great grandson.
