Dick was stationed at Fort Monroe, VA and Ft Bragg, NC with the 82nd Airborne. He jumped out of airplanes "for the money" he would joke.

They were best friends and happiest when they were together.
He couldn't have been prouder of his grandchildren.
It was only natural growing up in Minnesota that Dick's first love was hockey. It was in his DNA. He formed a youth league that still exists 50 years later, coached, and played regularly, even as a senior citizen. Here he is, number 11, with his younger brothers and father.
Dick spent many years in politics, serving as Mayor of Shoreview, Minnesota for over a decade.
